Vetericyn

A new wound-care product seems to be multiplying like Jon & Kate lately at the barn. It’s called Vetericyn, which is also the name of the company that produces the stuff. Vetericyn is a “topical wound-care product,” according to the company press release. Nearly every stall door has a bottle hanging from the blanket rack.

Vetericyn kills bacteria (including staph and drug-resistant MRSA), viruses, fungi and spores without harming healthy tissue. It’s a non-toxic broad-spectrum antimicrobial. It can be used to treat scratches, hot spots, skin ulcers, rain and girth rot, eye and ear infections, cuts, burns, fungal infections and more. THIS STUFF WORKS. And it works fast. It is also very safe, and can be used in the eyes, mouth and nose. It has a shelf life of 18 months and reduces inflammation and odor.

Apparently, Vetericyn works by mimicking the equine immune system’s response to an infection. Bacteria, virus, fungi and spores have not demonstrated the ability to develop resistance to Vetericyn (yet). Vetericyn kills all these single-cell pathogens within 30 seconds of contact. It can also kill salmonella, staph  and even E. coli. It is as  safe as water and is non-toxic and environmentally friendly. The horse can lick its wounds or infections after application of Vetericyn without any adverse affects (thus eliminating the need for the embarrassing and passe cone-head-collar). It does not stain furniture or clothes. And there are no special disposal requirements.

I’m soaking in it!

Seriously, people are spraying this stuff everywhere, even on their own scratches, cuts and bruises. There is a human version, called Microcyn, but really, why buy two products when you and your horse can share!

Vetericyn is $35.00 for a 16-ounce spray bottle. For other sizes and products, click here.

I used it on my dog’s eye infection and it worked great. Didn’t sting or hurt him and I applied only it once in the evening and once the next morning and it was gone when I got home from work that night.

I agree with the comments about Vetricyn – forget about the animals – I use it for sore throats or any other thing going around. The stuff is wonderful for humans and I believe they sterilize instruments in the operating rooms in Mexico with it. Good for animals too of course!
